Child Concession for Train and Road Coach Travel

Children aged 5 to 15 years (inclusive) are entitled to a 50% concession on all Transwa services.

Children under 5 years of age may travel free as long as they are nursed by an accompanying adult. An adult may only nurse one underage child. Children aged 4 years of age may also travel at the 50% concession if a seat is required.

Bookings for unaccompanied children cannot be made online. Please contact Transwa on 1300 662 205 or at info@transwa.wa.gov.au to make a booking for an unaccompanied child.

Children aged 10 to 15 years may travel without being accompanied by an adult provided a Travel Authorisation for Unaccompanied Child/Children form has been completed and presented to the Transwa operational staff.

Student Concession for Train and Road Coach Services

From January 2007, Student SmartRider was made available to all students and will be the only identification accepted by Transwa for full-time high-school students older than 15 years of age (passengers aged 15 years old and younger are classed as a child fare). Full-time tertiary students (University and TAFE) also require a SmartRider card to obtain the concessional fare. To receive the 50% student concession, the SmartRider must be presented for verification at the time of booking and carried at all times while travelling on Transwa services. For details on how to obtain the Transperth Student SmartRider, please contact the Infoline on 13 62 13.

Health Care Card Concession for Train and Road Coach Services

Only Western Australian residents in possession of a valid Heath Care Card are entitled to a 50% concession on all Transwa services.

The cards are granted by Centrelink offices in each state and show the cardholders name, address, cardholder reference number and expiry date.

Backpackers Concession for Train and Road Coach Travel

VIP Backpackers Card

Cardholders in possession of a valid VIP Backpackers card are entitled to a 10% concession on all Transwa services. The cards are issued by VIP backpacker hostels/agents in Australia and overseas and show the cardholders name and expiry date.

Youth Hostel Association Card

Cardholders in possession of a valid Youth Hostel Association card are entitled to a 10% concession on all Transwa services. The cards are issued by the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) Australia and overseas and show the card holders name and expiry date.

Vision Impaired Concession for Train and Road Coach Travel

People with a vision impairment in possession of a Travel Pass for Persons with a Vision Impairment are entitled to unlimited free journeys for them and an accompanying guide on all Transwa services.

Cardholders from other Australian States are also entitled to free travel on presentation of their card.

Pensioner Concession for Train and Road Coach Services

Only Western Australian residents in possession of a valid Pension card are entitled to a 50% concession on all Transwa services.

Pension concession cards are granted by Centrelink and show the cardholders name, address, Cardholder Reference Number and expiry date.

Pension concession cardholders receive a WA Free Trip Voucher with their Pension card every year and this may be redeemed to obtain two (2) single journeys or one (1) return journey on Transwa services prior to the expiry date of the voucher.

Please note that only the primary cardholder as named on the card can use the Pension card for concessional travel on Transwa services. 

Senior Concessions for Train and Road Coach Services

Senior SmartRider cards are granted by the Department for Communities to Western Australian residents aged 60 years and over. The SmartRider is issued with or attached to the Seniors card, which shows the cardholders name, card number and State of issue. Senior concession travel for Western Australian residents can be booked online.

Senior cardholders from other States can obtain the 50% concession on bookings by telephoning 1300 662 205 or at info@transwa.wa.gov.au.

Companion Card Concession for Train and Road Coach Services

Transwa is registered as an affiliated organisation for the Companion card; this allows a person with a significant disability who qualifies for a Companion card to have a carer accompany them for free.

Veterans Concessions for Train and Road Coach Services

Transwa accepts two types of concession cards for Western Australian Veterans; the Veteran SmartRider and the gold Veteran Repatriation Health card.

The SmartRider is issued by Transperth and entitles Veterans to a 50% concession.

The Repatriation Health card is issued by the Department for Veteran Affairs and entitles Veterans to four single or two return free trips per calendar year. Veterans in possession of a Western Australian Pension card should refer to the Seniors and W.A Pensioners section.
