Yarloop Station platform upgrade

Work will soon begin at Yarloop Station to upgrade the existing low-level platform to a raised platform fully compliant with Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) standards.

The six-metre-long platform will be fully sheltered, accessible via ramp or stairs, and have seating for three people. Lighting will also be installed to meet DDA requirements. The platform will be constructed using a steel structural frame which will be fabricated off-site.

The new raised platform will improve the experience of Transwa passengers travelling to or from Yarloop on the Australind service, which operates twice daily between Bunbury and Perth.

As part of the project, the existing station access road and car park will be upgraded to current standards. Two car bays and one accessible (ACROD) bay will be created, along with associated line marking and bollards, new kerbing and bitumen surface. Accessible paths will also be installed between the existing pedestrian level crossing, the car park, and the new platform.

The old loading ramp opposite the station will be retained for its heritage value and will be fenced as part of the project.

Early work on the upgrade of the station car park began on site in December. The project is expected to be complete by mid-2018.

Construction impacts

Installation of the pre-fabricated platform is expected to take around a week. Prior to this, part of the existing low-level platform will be demolished, and concrete footings for the new platform, ramp and stairs prepared.

Should construction works prevent passengers from using the existing platform to board or disembark their service, temporary measures will be put in place. These will be communicated to affected passengers ahead of time.

Construction will also include the removal of two existing trees, one of which was compromised during the 2015-2016 fires. The other is required to be removed to accommodate the new platform structure.
