Unaccompanied Children (Travelling Without Adult Supervision)
Transwa is aware of the hazards and risks associated with a child or children travelling on our services. To reduce the risks for both the child/children and Transwa, the following policy has been adopted:
1. A child under 10 years of age is not permitted to travel on any Transwa service without being accompanied by a supervising adult.
2. A child aged 10 to 15 years inclusive may travel without being accompanied by a supervising adult but will be treated as an unaccompanied child, excluding children travelling on the AvonLink or Australind services.
3. Bookings for unaccompanied children cannot be made online. To book an unaccompanied child onto a Transwa service please contact 1300 662 205.
4. A parent/guardian responsible for the child or children must complete a Travel Authorisation for Unaccompanied Child/Children form stating:
a) The name(s) and age(s) of the child/children, including drop off and pick up locations;
b) The name of the parent/guardian responsible for the child/children; including their residential address and telephone numbers;
c) If a different person, the name of the parent/guardian responsible for dropping off the child/children; including telephone numbers;
d) The name of the parent/guardian responsible for collecting the child/children at the final destination; including their home address and telephone numbers; and
e) Date of travel, booking confirmation and ticket number.
5. The completed form is to be handed to the Transwa operational staff at the time of boarding the service. Transwa reserves the right to refuse to carry the child/children if the form is incomplete or not provided.
6. On arrival at the boarding rail station or road coach stop, the adult responsible for the child/children should notify Transwa staff that the child or children is travelling alone.
7. The adult responsible for the child/children must remain at the boarding rail station or road coach stop until the train or road coach has departed.
8. Transwa will require identification from the adult responsible for collecting the child/children if there is any concern shown by the child/children towards the collecting adult.
9. Transwa will not leave an unaccompanied child/children at a destination if there is no adult who is responsible for collecting the child/children present; nor will it delay the rail or road coach service to wait for the adult.
10. If the child/children is not met by the nominated adult at the stated destination and at the appropriate time, the child/children will remain on the service. Alternatively, in some cases the child/children may be left at the local Police Station.
Where the adult responsible for collecting the child/children fails to do so they should contact the Transwa Operations Help Desk on (08) 9326 2252 so alternate arrangements can be made.
11. Transwa, its employees, agents and contractors accept no responsibility for the protection, care (including medical), custody, control and/or supervision of the child/children at any time or at any place, whether in transit or otherwise, including:
a) the place of departure;
b) the place of destination; and/or
c) stopping places, whether shown on Transwa timetables as scheduled stopping places
or otherwise.
